Happy Heart Day!

I had a wonderful Valentine’s Day full of love and happy things!
I finally took the time to take a picture of my little Hitomi action figure for a suedo valentines card, I know, it’s totally dorky, but when I saw those super posable volks kid bodies, I knew I had to make some Devil’s Candy figures! I made a Nemo too, but he’s not finished yet. I have to paint all his organs on still. I made these like, months and months ago, but I haven’t had clothes for them until just recently! And still, they’re not very gothic/lolita. I would make some, but I thought, ‘Why don’t you DRAW Devil’s Candy rather than make silly dolls!?’ And so I’ve given the project a lot less time.
Another Valentine’s Day something-or other worth mention is an artist I particularly love. Those of you who’ve come to this page since back in the day when it was “zombie promenade” probably know who I’m talking about, but for those of you who don’t, I must introduce you to one of the greatest illustrators I’ve ever known. He is of course, the infamous Mr. Shigeru Mizuki– creator of Gegege no Kitaro, and all other things wonderful. This introduction has been a long time coming, but it hasn’t been until recently that I’ve discoved some really nice Mizuki pages to link to.
Shigeru Mizuki is nothing short of legendary. His most popular series, Gegege no Kitaro was quite the phenomenon in Japan, a phenomenon that started in the 1960’s and has continued to this day. There’s even a museum and bronze statues devoted to his stories and characters in his home town of Saikaiminato. I personally am obligated to love him and for obvious reasons. He inspired Devil’s Candy, after all.
To get to know Mr. Mizuki a little better, you can download some of his works here, visit the Mizuki Museum’s homepage, or read this Drawn! article about him. Thanks to Monsterama, there’s also this AWESOME site devoted to the GBA game, which was pretty good, actually. Kinda like castlevania, sorta. Yay for sprites!!

Oh yeah, I also made some “Better Than Sex” brownies that were…well….REALLY damn good! I could only eat one heart’s worth, it was as rich as a whole box of chocolates.
Here’s the recipe, it was super cheap and easy to make:

“Better Than Sex” brownies
24 brownies
46 minutes (20 mins prep)

1 package German chocolate cake mix
1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 (14 ounce) bag caramels
3/4 cup melted butter
1 (6 ounce) bag chocolate chips
1 1/2 bags pecans

1. Mix together: cake mix, butter and 1/3 cup milk.
2. Press 1/2 of mix into a 9 x 13-in. greased pan.
3. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.
4. Sprinkle on pecans.
5. Melt together caramels and rest of milk, pour over pecans.
6. Sprinkle on chocolate chips.
7. Pour on remaining cake mix.
8. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
9. Refrigerate for 3 hours.

If you somehow manage to eat more than one, you’ll probably die.

…you should try selling Devil’s Candy dolls one day. I know I would buy a Nemo and Pandora in a heartbeat.
I think those brownies would make me puke because I can’t handle super sweet or rich things.
